Milk Bath

Two digital angel's observations of contemporary humanity.

Milk Bath is a short film accompanying a solo exhibition from Sophie which screened at East Gallery Norwich, where the exhibition took place, and at Silent Green at Pictoplasma.

Milk Bath follows two ‘digital angels’ who have fallen to earth and are observing contemporary humanity. The 3D animated short questions what these beings would make of modern life, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality through a fragmented narrative.

Sophie’s irreverent visual language, forms threads that tie her abstract worlds together, even across mediums and technique. In Milk Bath her recurring humanoid-looking characters are reborn as inquisitive beings. Utilising her 3D animation style, the film feels futuristic and unsettling, with diffused textures and colours that enhance the intimacy of the slightly claustrophobic framing, as if the viewer is under the microscope of the beings.

Milk Bath marks Sophie’s evolution of her 3D creative practice, while maintaining the curiosity and exploration that permeates throughout all her short films. Drawn to the spontaneity of the medium, Sophie uses 3D animation in Milk bath to create a film that is unexpected and filled with life, surreal while also relatable in its humanity.
