Bring A Book To Life

The global campaign from Droga5 for Amazon highlights how books depend on readers to bring their stories and worlds to life.

When Amazon Books was in need of artists to ‘Bring a Book to Life’ they approached dream-like illustrator Wei Wu to breathe life into the romance genre. Celebrating the unique relationship we have with the written word and the ability it has to take you on adventures far beyond the page, the campaign is built around the concept of stepping away from screens and into new worlds.

The Brief

As we spend more of our lives scrolling and streaming, this campaign for Amazon Books sets out to rekindle the magic of reading, and remind us of the deep, personal connection we have with books.

Reading requires imagination. It means bringing passive parts of yourself online to turn an author's words into living, breathing characters full of life.

Droga5 lead a series of OOH and digital executions that show readers in everyday moments as their surroundings transform, bringing the book’s world to life, and revealing how the story emotionally brings them to life too.

The Approach

From six genres being explored, Wei created an execution for Romance, layering her illustration over photography to create a striking and dreamy visual.

The concept plays on the simple, familiar moment of opening a book - using the diagonal geometry of a turned page as a gateway into vivid imagined worlds, all in their own distinct styles.

For Wei bringing to life the nuances of romance is something she frequently imbues into her projects, exploring sweeping and grand feelings within singular compositions.

A project that shows how thoughtful design and bold craft can pull people in, spark feeling, and build something truly transportive, much like a well-loved book.

After the illustration was set, motion was added to bring the book worlds to life.
