Curaleaf 'Pain Unmasked'
A sensitive portrayal of the inner lives of those with chronic pain.
'Pain Unmasked' is a campaign from Hayley Wall in collaboration with Curaleaf Clinic exploring the hidden realities of chronic pain. For this campaign Hayley crafted three illustrations based on the lived experiences of three people who live with chronic pain, which were then transformed into striking 3D models representing the way people with chronic pain are often pressured into hiding or 'masking' their pain.

Passionate about encouraging and depicting a more empathetic world-view, Hayley's emotive design style sheds light on experiences that too often are overlooked.
Through scaled up characters, Hayley is able to tell the stories of the three interviewees with sensitivity and an artistic nuance that depicts whole narratives within a single design. As someone who also lives with chronic pain, this project had a personal connection for Hayley who felt that they were able to approach this project with empathy and the care needed.

"I believe that art is a great tool for raising awareness and creating connection and I was very grateful to the Curaleaf team for letting me be a part of this important campaign and to the patients who so openly shared their stories with me." - Hayley

Transforming the usually 2d illustrations Hayley crafts into tactile and expressive 3d masks was an exciting evolution for Hayley who is always in pursuit of finding new ways of communication through design.
