L’Hémicycle

Energetic illustrations propelling towards the future.

Crafting a series of images for magazine L’Hémicycle, Thomas designed vibrant and nostalgic illustrations that have an almost pop-art aesthetic and explosive energy. The magazine tells the story of the construction of the railways in France and although a subject of the past, Thomas imbued his designs with a futuristic, strikingly modern style.

Brief

Having been tasked with bringing to life the historic  story of the creation of the French railway system, Thomas dove into the rich history from its beginnings in the 19th century to the founding of the SNCF national rail company. Commissioned to bring the story to life and inject energy into the archival themes, Thomas approached the project to evoke what was once a historic vision of the future.

Design

To develop the contrast between the historic subject and the futuristic vision, Thomas crafted the illustrations in a high-contrast colour palette, exploding with the movement, propelled towards the future. Using his bold visual language Thomas bridges the gap between the past and the present.
