Ben&Julia’s signature high-craft design language takes on a glamorous spin for Klarna and their ‘Dear Klarna’ series of films featuring stylish and elegant central character Lola Lavish.
Provided with a simple and engaging concept, Ben&Julia crafted the series of films around a public competition inviting audience members to write love letters to Lola Lavish for the chance to win a prize.
Developing a rich narrative within the campaign, Ben&Julia utilised their experiences developing immersive and stand-out worlds for brands to execute the comedic and highly shareable concept.
The visual language for the campaign leaned into Klarna’s high-shine, glossy and intentionally-kitsch style, with Ben&Julia pushing it further into their slightly absurd style, crafting a theatrical and romantic universe with highly saturated colours, and rich textures.
Shot during Covid, Ben&Julia handled the project from end-to-end and were able to keep the production contained in their Berlin studio, allowing for shooting, monitoring, feedback and editing all taking place simultaneously.
Tackling the puppetry, set design, art direction, filming and post-production all themselves, the result was a high-impact campaign for the German market that resonated beyond its initial concept and demonstrated Ben&Julia’s passion and skillset for ambitious character-driven storytelling.
