Marking the return of his characterful cast of hand-built bodega puppets, Matte crafts eight charming social-first spots for Snapple.
Brief
With the success of Matte’s ‘Snapsolutely Refreshing’ campaign, Snapple returned with a new challenge; translating the world-building and tactile craft into a series of social forward films.
A natural evolution of the campaign, bringing the personality-filled characters into the rapid world of social media meant finding humorous and engaging ways to convey the message without diluting the craft and hand-built energy of the initial campaign. Aimed for scroll-stopping moments, the social spots brought humour and lightness to people’s algorithms.
Approach
Bringing his characters into a variety of new entertaining scenarios, Matte and his team of puppeteers kept craft at the heart of the campaign and brand world through spontaneity on-set and reactive character performances.
“It was a joy getting to expand their personality and focus even more on their performance this time round. It was a nice puppeteering challenge to act out snappy dialogue provided by some legendary cartoon voice talent.”
Design
Expanding the craft influence from the original brand campaign, each set was designed to be in-keeping with the Snapple world while bring it to a new social-first audience. Featuring hand-crafted products from Matte’s bodega to a tiny bikini for the poolside kombucha, every spot although short, was crammed full with craft and tactile design.
